For maths we had to design a sundial and create in the woods room. The group consisted of Rykin, Austin and I.
Rykin,Austin and I . We made a pretty basic sundial that had a square shaped bottom with a circular rod in the middle to tell the time.
Three interesting facts about a sundial
They were invented in 13th century and they were the only way to tell time back in the old days .
The earliest known sundials are obelisks 3500 BC, and the shading clocks 1500 BC
The first sundial in Rome was taken from the Samnites. The sundials need to point north and sit on a flat surface

How we made the sundial
First off we had to decide what kind of sundial we wanted to make so we decided to make the easiest one ever with a square base. When we first got to the workshop we had to find the materials we needed and finding the rod we would have to use for our sundial. We choose a 6mm rod to put it in the middle of the sundial to tell time then we had to cut the rod to how high we wanted it to be and it ended up to around 55 mm and then we had to measure out the lines on the base so we could tell the time accurately. After all of that we went outside and checked out our progress and it worked very well and we could tell the time precisely.
What I learnt - I learnt that we could work as a team and still get things done pretty
easily and that sundials can we any size or shape.
What I had fun with - I had fun with making the sundial look like a famous rapper
and making the sundial all together
What I found difficult - I found it difficult when we had to find out what sundial we
were going to make but we choose the simplest one ever and that was a square with a
drilled hole through the middle and we put the rod through the drilled hole
What I would do different - What I would do differently is I would make a more complex
version so I would put more thought into it because of the easy one I didn't put much effort
in it because it was so simple

There are some videos on youtube to show you how a simple sundial is made
Hi Michael i'm Jesse from 7/8 tz the class that you showed the sundials too. I like how it shows the time and properly make the words bigger. maybe make the slide 10 or 11 slides if you want.
ReplyDeleteKia Ora Jesse, Thanks for your feedback and next time I will add the text bigger so it is easier to read thanks for the feedback
DeleteHi it's Camryn next time make the words bigger and anyways i really
ReplyDeletelike your awesome work that you and your group made
Hello Camryn, You and Jesse both gave me the same feedback so yous must've seen it. Thanks for the feedback Camryn
DeleteKia Ora Rykin, You also have the same idea as Camryn & Jesse I understand how it is too small but if you can't read it properly maybe you should check specsavers,Anyways thanks for the feedback and I will take t into consideration
