Parts of a cell

Parts of a cell

Animal Cells - Cell Membrane, Cytoplasm, Nucleus

Plant Cell - Large vacuole, Cell Wall, Cell Membrane, Chloroplast, Cytoplasm, Nucleus.

What do organelles do - Organelles are structures within a cell that perform specific functions like controlling cell growth and producing energy. Plant and animal cells can contain similar types of organelles.

Large Vacuole - In plant cells, the vacuoles are much larger than in animal cells. When a plant cell has stopped growing, there is usually one very large vacuole. Sometimes that vacuole can take up more than half of the cell's volume. The vacuole holds large amounts of water or food.

Cell wall - A rigid layer of polysaccharides lying outside the plasma membrane of the cells of plants, fungi, and bacteria. In the algae and higher plants it consists mainly of cellulose.

Cell Membrane - The semipermeable membrane surrounding the cytoplasm of a cell.

Chloroplast - A plastid in green plant cells which contains chlorophyll and in which photosynthesis takes place.

Cytoplasm - The material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus

Nucleus - The central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth.
