Aim - Seperate the solute from solvent into coke
Hypothesis - The coke will evaporate and idk what it will make
Equipment - Coke, Conical Flask, Heatproof mat, Delivery Tube, bung, bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, retort stand, boss head clamp, boiling tube.
Method -
1. Set up equipment as shown in diagram
2. Add approximately 50ml of coke to conical flask
3. Light your bunsen burner, open the air hole and gently push the bunsen burner under the tripod
4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated. Turn off the bunsen burner
Results/Observations - Diet Coke used, When the liquid evaporated the Coke turnt into sugar leaving nothing but sugar.
Conclusion - This experiment was boring cause all we learnt was how to watch water evaporate.
Discussion - The sugar kept the color of the coke and then the non sugar kept the color in the liquid and the sugar was a solid.
Evaluation - The experiment was a cool experiment and I want to do it again.
This sounds like a fun experiment Mike! How much sugar was left over? That would be interesting to know how much sugar you can consume from a Diet Coke, which would have far less sugar than what the normal Coca Cola would even have.
ReplyDeleteHi Michael, Awesome work writing up the experiment! As the coke evaporated, what happened in the other test tube? Next time it would be great to have an explanation of what/why the experiment happened the way it did.
